RB'S QUESTION OF THE DAY: December 30, 2012: In some places of the US, different areas and different cultures believe certain foods bring luck for the coming year? Is this true in your area?? If so, what foods does your family have at the New Year???
In some places of the US, different areas and different cultures believe certain foods bring luck for the coming year? Is this true in your area??
If so, what foods does your family have at the New Year???
In our family, it was always some kind of pork and some kind of cabbage. Our mother's favorite for New Year's Day was pork roasted with sauerkraut. Mine is ham stewed with cabbage. Where we live down south, however, the tradition is Hoppin' John which is black-eyed peas, usually prepared with some kind of pork, but I like ham stewed with cabbage better, so that's usually what we have.
