Her name was Mitzi, but we all called her Poody; she was a black tiny toy poodle about 4-1/2# soaking wet. She was my best friend for over 17 years, always trying hard to do the right thing and bring joy and happiness to everyone she met. I took her everywhere with me, often even sneaking her inside my purse to get her into places. It was like we were joined - at the heart.
Once the arthritis began to affect her, I prayed and prayed that she would decide to check out on her own, but it seemed that she just wouldn't leave me. One day it got so bad she had trouble getting out of her bed without whimpering, and I decided I could no longer ask her to live in that much pain simply because I didn't have the nerve to give her peace. So I took the next step, made the appointment and our sister took her for her last car ride to the vet. They said she wagged her tail while they put her to sleep.
It's now been about 13 years, and I miss her still. And I thank God for giving me so much wonderful time with her.
