For a long time, our family and extended family had a family reunion on July 4th each year, and they were huge wonderful picnics. Then children grew up and left home, sometimes for distant places, and the number of attendees dwindled. Then our dad changed the date to August 9th which was our paternal grandfather's birthday and claimed they'd always been held on that date, so we went along with it, and only had immediate family picnics on July 4th followed by a trip to see fireworks somewhere.

Nowadays everyone is grown and the gatherings have gotten smaller and smaller, so it's not unusual for Tom and I to find ourselves either by ourselves or working. I often wish it were different, but that's life.

How about you?

With love.

God bless.
