In the bedroom ceiling of the house we grew up in, there was a trapdoor to the attic that was just a piece of plywood that fit into a groove in the floor of the attic. When you wanted up in the attic (which no one ever did), you pushed the plywood up and slid it to the side to create an opening you could use. Well, that dang thing moved all the time. Up, down - up, down through the years. And we'd often hear sounds up there that sounded like someone walking the attic floor with boots on.
We told our dad about it. He said it was squirrels. I asked when squirrels started wearing boots. It was freaky and scary.
I noticed the last time I was up there that someone at sometime had put a slide lock on the thing to keep it in place. That fixed the trap door. Wonder if it stopped the boots. ;o)
