When I overheard my paternal grandmother tell an aunt I wasn't "bad" like my parents told everyone I was, that I was "normal" for a kid my age.
She changed my life that day. Up until then, I had heard I was bad so many times, I thought I was unredeemable. Overhearing her statement changed my belief in myself and led me to start trying to be better. Up til then, I figured if I was bad, why try to be better.
