I remember my dad pulling me on a toddler's sled-seat through the snow. We were going to grandma's so she could babysit me so mom and dad could go to the movies. As I was sitting there, I saw the skeleton of a weed sticking up through the snow, and as we passed it, I reached out and grabbed it. It was frozen into the ground, and pulled me out of the sled-seat. My dad never missed a beat and kept on pulling as though I was on the sled-seat, and off he went down the sidewalk while I pushed myself up out of the snow crying. And I remember thinking, "I'll never see that guy again."

But on the other side of the street, a large woman came running out of her house in a dress with an apron over it and a blue overcoat over that. She kept yelling at my dad, and finally he heard her and stopped to see what she wanted. I saw her point towards me, and I saw dad turn and look at me, surprised that I wasn't still on the sled. He rushed back to get me, sat me back in the sled-seat and off we went again. I was young, barely toddling, and there was had been a diaper bag on the sled with me, so I'd say less than two-years old.

Anyway decades later, he was recounting this at a family gathering, and I told him I remembered. He said I couldn't possibly remember because I'd been so young, that someone must've told me about it at some point. Until I told him about the weed I'd reached out to grab, and he remembered the weeds along the sidewalk; and then I told him about the lady who'd run yelling to tell me he'd lost me. He knew he'd told no one that.

;o)

From about that time on, I was the one many in the family went to when something needed "recollecting". It didn't always turn out well though, because sometimes instead of stopping arguments at what I remembered, it started them back up again - especially with my two elderly aunts. LOL

So how about you? What's the earliest memory you recall??

With love.

God bless.
